Arden Thomas
Currently the Cincom Smalltalk Product Manager, Arden started using Smalltalk in 1986 when he was researching and exploring better ways to do software development.  He found it!  Smalltalk and object-oriented were such a profoundly improved approach to software development, that he made a full endeavor into Smalltalk.  Arden has worked for several major companies in addition to working for a hedge fund, which ran hundreds of applications in VisualWorks 24/7 to provide decision-making information and tools to traders.  Arden’s blog is titled “Less is More”—an interesting principle as well as a reference to an attractive Smalltalk design philosophy.

Andreas Hiltner
After specializing in ObjectStudio for more than 15 years, Andreas is currently the lead VM engineer for Cincom ObjectStudio and the lead engineer for the GUI Project of ObjectStudio, in addition to working with most aspects of base-image and database development. After spending five years with his family in the US at Cincom’s world headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio, he recently returned home, which is near Nuremberg, Germany. Along with many contributions to ObjectStudio over the years, he was the project lead in Cincom’s development of the current 8.x versions of ObjectStudio, based on Cincom VisualWorks. In his years of working with Cincom, he has had the opportunity to assist key Cincom Smalltalk users worldwide including one of the world’s top-five financial institutions and several government agencies.

Dirk Verleysen
Dirk has 24 years of experience working for various industrial and consulting companies and doing projects in different Smalltalks (Cincom ObjectStudio, Cincom VisualWorks, Smalltalk/V and VA Smalltalk). Dirk has consulted for many companies and joined Cincom in 2008 as lead developer for the modeling and mapping tools in ObjectStudio.

Les Kooyman
Les Kooyman is a current Cincom® VisualWorks® engineer.   Les is a long-time music fan who is currently in a lengthy project of digitizing his extensive vinyl record collection of 70s Progressive Rock to CD and iTunes.  When Les isn’t enjoying his hundreds of records, he enjoys going to concerts and watching meteors pass over the desert sky.  Listening to music and the peaceful bliss of stargazing is a welcome reprieve from the chaos of his two beagles and two kitty ninja brothers that patrol his California home, where he is also in his second year of being a raised-bed gardener.

Les has been active in computing since 1975 and has progressed his programming career through many platforms and systems over the years.  He has worked with coding health insurance claims systems in RPG and system programming for mainframes, as well as worked in the system performance area for plug-compatible mainframe manufacturers Amdahl and National Advanced Systems; a task he was involved with for 20 years. Les continued his career in Smalltalk with various endeavors and locations, including CORBA work on SmalltalkBroker at Promia. Les has been working now at Cincom Systems, Inc. for 5 years and is happily involved with Cincom Smalltalk development.

The Smalltalk Industry Conference is always a major event, but this year is special, since we’ll be celebrating Smalltalk’s 30th anniversary! In addition to the fine presentations from the Cincom Smalltalk speakers, there will definitely be some special activities planned.

You don’t want to miss it!
