Cincom Maintenance Releases – Updates

In the last post/digest article, we noted important changes that we are making in our releases and release process to better meet customer requirements. These changes are based on customer feedback (see here).  The fall Cincom Smalltalk releases will be true maintenance “service pack” releases and will be introduced between major releases.

We are also experimenting with the delivery mechanisms of the maintenance releases, with full installations or in-place updates.

The full, fall maintenance releases will be:  Cincom® ObjectStudio® 8.3.1 and Cincom® VisualWorks® 7.8.1.

VisualWorks will have an optional process to update a 7.8 installation.  The future target will be online-updatable maintenance service packs.
