Pollock

Where Did You Go Joe DiMaggio?

Still here. Still going strong.

The fact is that many big changes have been in progress in Pollock over the last year.

For instance, a whole new coordinate system; Annoucements replace trigger events; Attributes used for dynamic pane behavior; the Canvas and more.

These changes will be part of the "final" Preview version of Pollock, which is already staged for inclusion in VisualWorks 7.5.

After that release, I'll be back here covering all the changes and additions made to Pollock since my last series of updates.

Finally, Pollock is slated for Production in 7.6. That's what I'm working on now. Internally, Pollock will go into Production this summer. Yes, it really is that close. The version included in the 7.5 release has the last of the "big changes" we had planned.

A final pass at DragDrop, along with the long awaited optimization work is all that stands between the 7.5 Preview release, and Production. Once that is done, it's just some small features and bug fixes.

Back in a month or so with those detailed updates.

Very glad to hear that Pollock is getting close. And how far away is wysiwyg drawing of UIs?

Where can I find a high level overview of Pollock?

Is there a summary somewhere that describes what Pollock is all about?  Everything I've found is too detail oriented, and I can't get a sense of what's new.

RE: WYSIWYG Drawing of UIs:

That is being worked on by the Tools team, and the project name is Splash. It is being worked on, and over on the Travis Blog It seems he'll soon be putting out regular public updates.

As for what is Pollock in terms of an overview.... Pollock is a new GUI Framework for VisualWorks that is planned to replace the existing GUI Framework, which we call Wrapper. As to what's compared to Wrapper, well, I'll add that as something I'll try to address Real Soon Now
