Cincom VisualWorks Web Toolkit Tutorial Learning Approach

Developing database-driven web sites is a very broad topic. There are many underlying technologies involved and any one of them could warrant its own tutorial. Therefore, this tutorial will not go into any great depth on any one topic and will attemp to weed out all the non-essential, nitty gritty details and present only what you need to know about a certain topic along the way.

This tutorial will show you how to build a dynamic (data-driven) web site (more specifically, a web application) using the tools available to you in the VisualWorks Web Toolkit. The application is fairly simple - a course history system that allows an employer to keep track of what courses their employees have taken while under their employment. The idea here is not to be overwhelmed by the complexities of a given system (i.e. its problem domain). The goal is to demonstrate web development techniques using an easy-to-understand application (that works) with enough complexity to demonstrate the capabilites of the Web Toolkit.
