Smalltalk Solutions 2011 is over. It has been a great conference. The mood among Smalltalkers was great. There is really interesting new stuff going on in various places.

Smalltalk Solutions is back! The last two years
have seen many new developments in Smalltalk and in the software world in
general. Interest in Smalltalk is growing, and it remains the best software
technology for the innovations that will shape the future.

Smalltalk Solutions is a forum where Smalltalk professionals, researchers, and
enthusiasts can meet and share ideas and experiences. We are currently
accepting proposals for talks involving Smalltalk technology and other areas of
innovation in the software industry. We're looking forward to an excellent
conference, and need your participation to maintain the high technical level of
the conference!

The conference will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, March 13 – 16, 2011.
Presentations may be in the form of

• Technical Presentations
• Experience Reports
• Technology Demonstrations
• Panel Discussions
• Half-day Tutorials
• Other interesting ideas ...

Proposals should be submitted by email to STS_Speakers@stic.st and should include the following
information:

• Name
• Contact Information
• Type of Presentation
• Title of Presentation
• Brief Abstract
• Short Biography of the Presenter(s)
• Desired Length (45 minutes, 1.5 hrs, half-day)
• Any constraints on date/time
• Any other information of importance in evaluating the proposal

Submissions should be received by November 30, 2010. Note that submissions with
incomplete information may be rejected - particularly if bio or abstract
information is missing.

Presenters will qualify for a significantly discounted registration. This year
that will be $200 US, or $160 US for STIC members.

Currently I am sitting at ESUG 2010 (www.esug.org) in Barcelona. It is really a great conference with many high energy Smalltalkers. Great mood moving Smalltalk forward.

I am already looking forward to the next Smalltalk Solutions Conference in Las Vegas Sunday March 13 to Wednesday March 16, 2011!

There's big news in the Smalltalk community: Google purchased the java business from Instantiations, and the new Instantiations is a fully Smalltalk focused company:

The STIC Board has decided to organize Smalltalk Solutions 2011 in Las Vegas from Sunday March 13 to Wednesday March 16, 2011.

This time, one of our goals is to attract strangers, i.e. non-Smalltalks to our conference. Thus we are looking for an attractive sub title. Buzz words which popped into our minds are Cloud and Dynamic Languages. Thus we start a call for subtitle today. Please send your idea(s) to georg@stic.st until July 31st, 2010. The STIC Board of Directores shall vote on the subtitle. We sill also run a drawing amoung all submissions to win three prices: 10%, 5%, and 3% discount off the admission fee.

I am looking for a great Smalltalk Solutions 2011.

Instantiations is holding a VA Smalltalk event in Stuttgart (Germany) next week, and STIC will be there in the person of Georg Heeg - you can register for the (free) event and post event networking:

Join us in Stuttgart for a full day of discussion and learning on VA Smalltalk.This is a free event, but we ask that you please pre-register so we know that you are coming. There will be a networking event after the sessions and we invite you to stay.

Inspired by James Robertson's efforts, Marten Feldtmann has started posting screencasts about VA Smalltalk.  They are being hosted on blip.tv, so they should be easily accessible by anyone.

ESUG 2009 in Brest, France was a great success this year - we started with my talk, "Smalltalk is Hot", wound up with Instantiations and Cincom talking about their upcoming releases, and along the way, learned about a whole lot of cool things happening in the world of Smalltalk:

• Seaside 2.9 has been renamed Seaside 3.0, and is very close to beta
• All the Smalltalk vendors will be supporting Seaside 3.0
• The ESUG Innovation Awards were filled with spectacular projects, and the winners - as usual - had great stuff.  You can watch the video of the Award Ceremony here
• All of the slides, photos, and video links will be appearing on the ESUG site

It was a great conference, and it will all happen again next year, in Barcelona, Spain.
