Smalltalk Solutions: no talks on Wednesday

I've been asked this twice today, so let me post here in the vain hope that somebody might come across it. While the schedule for Smalltalk Solutions isn't up yet (real soon, I promise), the basic schedule is that the conference talks happen over three days, Thursday through Saturday. That's June 19-21. On June 18th, there'll be registration open, some coding contest activites, and a welcome reception - so basically it's the day before the conference really starts. If you're looking to book travel, you want to arrive on Wednesday. It's not necessary to arrive on Tuesday.

I knew this would be confusing.

Oh, and we've got some really good talks lined up, and I think it's going to be a great conference.

<p>I've already booked my flights to come in on Tuesday night before I knew this. Does that mean I have to find something in Reno to keep me busy until Thursday? Oh golly, oh gee.</p>

Smalltalk Solutions is over. Other people, including Jim Robertson have reported on the various sessions in a much more timely way than I can. One thing I like to collect though, is good quotes. Chad Fowler, who did both the "Ruby for Smalltalkers" tutorial and "The Innovations of Ruby on Rails" had the most quotable stuff for the conference, but there was one very nice one from Mark Petersen of IBM.

"Ruby is a gateway drug to all the things that used to be too weird." - Chad Fowler (Ruby for Smalltalkers tutorial)

"I love talking to Smalltalkers. You talk to a bunch of Java or PHP programmers their eyes glaze over and they don't understand why this stuff is cool. You guys understand why it's *not* cool." - Chad Fowler (Ruby for Smalltalkers tutorial)

"In my opinion, Seaside is the coolest thing going in web development" - Chad Fowler (Ruby for Smalltalkers tutorial)

"Smalltalk is an ideal language for non-professional programmers" - Mark Petersen, (Smalltalk in Semiconductor Test)

The Smalltalk Solutions program, along with the rest of the IT 360 conference is now listed here or in a slightly different format here.

In addition to those entries, I note that Chad Fowler, who's doing the "Ruby for Smalltalkers" talk will also be doing a general talk on Ruby that may be of interest for Smalltalkers.

The Smalltalk Solutions 2007 program has been determined (mostly, there are two more possible tutorials that we're still waiting on final confirmation for). However, it's not as fast as I'd like to get the information up on the main conference web site as part of their program. So, in the interests of letting people know what's happening, here's a link to the raw information. I've been using DabbleDB to keep track of it, mostly because the main conference wanted things in spreadsheets, and it was easy to convert back and forth.
