<p>Boy, the Wii has been a big hit at every gathering we've had. We had 14 people over for Christmas, and nearly everyone played at some point. Last night, a bunch of us had fun with Acme Arsenal - it's a lot of fun to whack robots as Bugs Bunny :)</p>

<p>We drove down to a friend's house for a small barbecue and fireworks thing today - the fireworks were mostly of the &quot;shooting stars&quot; variety, but we did have a few rockets and Roman Candles (predictably, those got fired first). I snapped a few photos; here's Brian (our host) mixing some drinks before the fireworks:</p>

What, just men? &amp;quot;..endowed by their Creator&amp;quot;, okay religion is important, especially over there in the U.S. but come on, very few believe we were actually physically created these days surely. So, maybe it&amp;#39;s time to update the words, what do you think? &lt;p&gt;Gary, I am convinced that "all men" means "all mankind" and that the reference to the Creator implies the creation of mankind as a whole.

What concerns me more is that this truly great nation does not uphold its own principles. The "unalienable Rights" are frequently and obviously alienated these days.

All men (mankind) are created equal? Some (named Libby, for example) are definitely more equal than others. Some sitting in certain places on certain islands are definitely less equal than others.

It's sad beyond words, but bigotry is taking apart the words of the constitution.

I wish you a happy fourth of July indeed.

&lt;p&gt;I second the idea that we have grown to understand that &amp;quot;men&amp;quot; applies to everyone.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;In addition, there are still &lt;a href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17879317/site/newsweek/" target="_blank" title="Newsweek Poll"&gt;a number of Americans&lt;/a&gt; that believe in what I would call &amp;quot;directed&amp;quot; origins (as opposed to &amp;quot;random&amp;quot; origins).  It does not mean that they all have to accept any particular view of how the universe and life originated, but it does seem to mean that they accept some form of intervention from outside of creation. Even if they did not, I would argue that censoring content because it contains religious ideas (or non-religious ideas as the case may be) indicates a sick society.  Do you remember when the Taliban blew up some giant statues carved into a hillside because they depicted another religion?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Those words from the Declaration of Independence form the foundation for the Constitution.  All of the rights enumerated in the Constitution spring out of those words.  The phrases that limit the scope and power / authority of the federal government (such as the widely-ignored 10th amendment) are themselves sourced in the Declaration.  When the young one was even younger, I read the Declaration and parts of the Constitution with him because I didn&amp;#39;t feel he was getting a sufficient understanding from his school.  I was quietly pleased when he used some of those phrases and ideas to express his disagreement with something I said.&lt;br /&gt; &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Like James, I am concerned about the fact that &lt;strong&gt;we are not even trying to live up to these words&lt;/strong&gt;.  How can we speak of freedom while people are confined in Guantanamo without any rights or due process of law?  How can any senator, congressperson, or judge allow this to go on?  Why did we imprison the little guys in the Iraqi prisoner abuse scandal, but not the officers that (most of us believe) gave the orders?  Why aren&amp;#39;t the college kids of today protesting like the ones in the 1960s did?  Why is Libby (who was convicted of something that I&amp;#39;d call treason) free instead of facing a firing squad?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;a href="http://lnxwalt.wordpress.com/" target="_blank" title="W^L+&amp;#39;s Blog"&gt;W^L+&lt;/a&gt;   &lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
