I'm nearly done posting content from Smalltalk Solutions 2008 - the only talks I have left to post are the Gemstone Roadmap talk, Colin Putney's Monticello2 talk, and the CRAFT Case tool presentation. That leaves a couple for which I just don't have video, (The VA roadmap and the Mark Petersen talk) - but I do have audio. As it happens, I have video for John O'Keefe's talk from ESUG, and, like Arden's roadmap talk, it's probably about the same.

That leaves all of the ESUG content - which will start appearing as soon as I get these last few talks cleared out. Stay tuned!

Technorati Tags:

I missed Bruce's talk on Smalltalk standards - the heating control talk went long. I'm back in the main room for Bruce's talk on a Smalltalk interface to Syslog. It's a commonly needed thing - realistically speaking, a Smalltalk server might want to produce system logs instead of its own, so that standard tools could "see" them.

Bruce has this working in VW and Gemstone (using his Sport framework for portability). He's demonstrating it for us, so we can see that it works :)

John McIntosh is giving a talk on GStreamer - he's been building support for it into Squeak lately. It's a pretty large open source library that supports various media formats, so it's a useful thing to have.

Sounds like he's added it in using primitives, and is thus far 32 bit only. Interesting problem in terms of supporting it from Smalltalk - GStreamer has its own garbage collection framework. That means you don't want to try to have its objects managed from the Smalltalk side, of course.

Michael and I were talking about the podcast the other day, and he had a great suggestion for ESUG (and for next year's Smalltalk Solutions, for that matter). As each day's activities draw to a close, I'll pull out the H2 and have a quick chat with anyone who's interested about what was cool at the conference that day. I'd like to keep these things short - 5-10 minutes, so that I could just get them posted quickly each day. Interested? Track me down at ESUG next month, and we'll talk about it :)
