You know some of the topics that will be discussed as well as some of the speakers. In an “unconference”, you may know some speakers because they’re mentioned sessions they want to do on a webpage but really, it’s subject to change - and it may not even be a presentation. Maybe it’s just “I just wanted to talk about open source movement,” and open the floor. I can do that over a dinner.

That's a good point. I don't know if I'm completely negative on the idea, but the boosterism you see from some corners is kind of off-putting.

I think the point is that an unconference attempts to reproduce the high-bandwidth conversations between the sessions, over lunch, dinner, drinks etc, that happen at a regular conference. I have found personally that the most valuable information is from the informal meetings that spring up in the cracks at a regular conference.

Now, one key is that to get value out of an unconfernece you must be active, if you just want to site and listen, you won't get alot out of an unconference. I will just link to the Wikipedia article on Open Space since its early in the morning and I don't have the energy to go find the best links

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Space_Technology

</includedComments:content>
