<p><p class="MsoNormal">I am currently reading this book:</p>     <p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;<img src="../../images/arden/leansoft.jpg" border="0" /></p><a href="http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/0321437381/ref=s9_asin_image_2/102-1448382-2336961"></a>     <p class="MsoNormal">Also mentioned in  <a href="../blog/blogView?showComments=true&amp;entry=3346072480">James blog</a></p><p class="MsoNormal">With the name &ldquo;lean&rdquo; you might imagine there is some &ldquo;less is more&rdquo; philosophy, and you would be right. </p>  <p class="MsoNormal">The book is very interesting; it borrows many ideas from just-in-time manufacturing, which I studied when I workd in IT for IBM semiconductor manufacturing in the late 80&rsquo;s.<span>  </span></p>      <p class="MsoNormal">Borrowing ideas from other disciplines often yields valuable insights, especially if the other discipline has been around for a while.<span>  </span>Doing this is what gave us software patterns. Software patterns came from looking at the novel ideas of Christopher Alexander about patterns that solve problems in building architecture. </p>  <p class="MsoNormal">One of the principles in the book is eliminating waste.<span>  </span>From the book: &ldquo;Let&rsquo;s revisit the best opportunity for eliminating waste in software development: <em>Write less code</em>&rdquo;.</p>  <p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
