One of Only Five High Tech CAD Environments Was Made with Cincom® VisualWorks®
AR-CAD LLC provides motion simulation, engineering and graphics software for companies using CAD (computer-aided design) systems in their operations.
Aik-Siong Koh’s goal was to find a solution that allows small teams to compete with larger players in creating engineering add-ins for high-tech CAD environments like AutoCAD, Inventor, Solidworks, Alibre or SpaceClaim. The solution had to be physics-based and allow users to visualize tolerances and the impact of physical forces.
To accomplish this goal, the technology had to maximize the abilities of a small team through increased programming productivity, integrate well within popular CAD programs, be easy to understand and facilitate software debugging.
Aik-Siong chose Cincom VisualWorks.
The successful results of using Cincom VisualWorks allowed companies to stay on equal footing with their competitors that rely on more complex programming languages as the foundation for their CAD motion simulators. The clean syntax and pure object-oriented paradigm also allowed programmers to convert the problem domain into working code more easily and faithfully, while the debugger and inspectors encouraged fearless exploration of the code to fix programming problems.
