Zürich Smalltalkers Meeting

Posted on in Categories Events, Smalltalk

Since the Zürich Smalltalkers had so much fun the last few times they’ve gotten together, they have decided that it would be a shame to miss an opportunity to reconvene!

Where and When?

The group will meet at 7:00 p.m. on November 8, 2016 at:

Alpha Sprachwelt AG
Stadelhoferstrasse 10
8001 Zürich

The group has arranged for a conference room for the evening, which will start off with a “show us your project” session in a room that’s equipped with a big screen. The social part will start at a nice Australian Steakhouse after the attendees provide their input.

The first session is already arranged, and it will feature a Gemstone-based persistence framework for Pharo, which can be used to develop in Pharo and keep your objects stored in Gemstone.

Around 8:00 to 8:30 p.m., the Smalltalkers will walk over to the Outback Lodge where a table has been reserved. While enjoying steaks and drinks, they will discuss ideas, talk about the good old times or do some spontaneous hacking. For directions to the lodge, visit http://www.outback-lodge.ch/index.php/stadelhofen

Your Input Is Needed

The venue, which now features a meeting room, adds more value since attendees will not only be able to talk about each other’s experiences and projects, they will also be able to see what they’re working on and what they’ve discovered.

To make this event even better that previous ones, meeting organizers are asking that people share their ideas or their latest work on some hobby or professional project. There’s no need for a full-fledged sales pitch with fog and visual effects, etc. Just bring your laptop and show the attendees what you do! The room is reserved for enough time for two to three presentations before the group leaves for beer and steaks.

So, if you have something interesting to show or would like to find people to join you on some early project you’re starting/planning, give meeting organizers a chance to learn about it. If you’ve built some interesting tool or use Smalltalk for something very special to you, feel free to share your fascination and ideas—it would definitely be appreciated!

If you spontaneously decide you want to show something or start some discussion, please do so. However, just realize that the group might possibly have to leave the room before it’s your turn, since time slots are limited.

Also, it would be a good idea to pre-announce your demo so that it can be determined if the room needs to be rented for a little longer, or perhaps your topic might attract even more people and by posting it, more people will be able to get the message.

How Do You Register? How Much Is It?

This is a meetup of friends, so it’s free to attend. You pay for your meal and drinks, but the rest is free.

Please register on our Doodle page at http://doodle.com/poll/c9c7tatwqppyhkhq.

Also, as a comment to your registration, we ask that you let us know if you’d like to give a short presentation.

The Zürich Smalltalkers hope to meet as many old and new Smalltalk enthusiasts and wannabes as possible!

See you soon in Zürich!
