I was very sad when Kodachrome went away some years ago.

While it is an end of an era I'll fondly remember, I'm fascinated that I can now build in the Canon Hacker Development Kit (chdk) the same sort of things I used to build manually by disassembling and reassembling old cameras I would get at thirft stores.

To me, the big improvement is that it's a lot cheaper and much quicker to find out now if an experiement worked.

It also amazes me that I can get a brand new camera for what it used to cost me to develop 20 rolls of film. My 9 year old son is contantly taking photos and making movies to a degree that would have been cost prohibitive to me as a child.

It's reaching the point of affordability where I'm starting to consider the advantages of having a camera farm where the actions of all the cameras are co-ordinated. At today's prices I could do that for what a single really good camera and lens would have cost me, even before taking inflation into account.
