Why DRM Is Stupid
Ok, go read this post by Megan McArdle. Then read the article she links to, which tries to explain how the policy works. The fun really gets going when it becomes clear that the Amazon reps attempting to exlpain the Kindle DRM policies don't really understand it themselves.
The bottom line is, if the vendor of the device you buy can't explain the limitations it has, then those limitations were very, very poorly thought out.

that story doesn't tell us anything about DRM per-se

just that the DRM solution at Amazon is poorly implemented.
I would even go a step further: to my knowledge not being able to know an essential feature of a product such as the maximum number of possible downloads upfront the purchase would be illegal in Germany. I would have thought so that's the case in the US too.
Umm

The reason it's a problem with DRM is that these problems always crop up with DRM.
another reason why I prefer real books: no DRM necessary/possible
