Tabloid on the Air
Scoble notes that ValleyWag got played on the "Zuckerberg is cashing out" story - he has a long explanation on how you can game ValleyWag, but there's a more interesting thing here that he only touches on: what kind of outlet ValleyWag is. They like to see themselves as a news outlet, but they are far closer to being "The Enquirer" than they are to being "The Washington Post". The moral of this story is simple: don't relay ValleyWag news unless there are other credible people on the same story independently.

In their defense, Valleywag describe themselves in their own masthead as a "Silicon Valley's Tech Gossip Rag". I may be wrong, but I can't remember them ever claiming to be a "news outlet".
