Stupidity on Parade

October 11, 2008 19:41:20.524

Along with the economic woes, is there a stupidity rash spreading? First I see this: Microsoft should by Yahoo:

With Yahoo, Microsoft can take newfound search share and undercut Google where it hurts. Ignoring the cost of a Yahoo acquisition, Microsoft can sell ads and ad-related search for less, because it's at the bottom going up.

Umm, sure. Never mind the massive integration problems in merging a largely OSS shop into the epitomy of all Windows-only shops. Nope, it's all upside - synergy will abound. Someone take whatever Joe Wilcox is smoking and have it tested, because it's stronger stuff than he thinks it is.

Next, I see this insane idea: GM and Chrysler to merge?

General Motors is in preliminary talks about a possible merger with Chrysler, a deal that could drastically remake the landscape of the auto industry by reducing the Big Three of Detroit automakers to the Big Two.

Because gosh knows, the financial difficulties the firms have individually will magically improve if you push them into one pile - the pension overhangs which are killing GM will be oh so much better when they add in the ones Chrysler has. If the boards of these firms have any sense at all, they should take everyone associated with that idea and fire them now.

Hey Jim.

Read this and was reminded of a certain merger that we went through about 10 years ago.  :)

GM and Crysler?

Daimler finally managed to get rid of Crysler again a year ago - but I think they took some of the pensions looming above Chrysler.

Anyways, GM and Chrysler merge and then Fiat buys the whole?
