It's not always about Windows
Scoble wants to blame his travel issues last week on an old DOS app. It's not always about the technology. What Scoble ran into was a simple people problem. I've seen this sort of thing (booking problems) happen with modern "whiz bang" systems as well. If you have bozos doing the data entry, you can get bozo results. Updating the software and keeping the bozos will simply result in prettier looking Snafus....

That should be a simple business rule set by the management -- that it's impossible to put two parties in the same room.

Exactly my point. And you don't need technology any better than a calendar book for that. Which is not to say that the hotel in question couldn't benefit from better technology; it's to say that they have a bigger problem than that...

Yeah, but a calendar book wouldn't allow for operators to interoperate with the schedule, or for registrations to be taken over the Web.
Anyway, we're going in circles. The system sucked. Their competitor's systems don't suck. I'll, as a customer, move to where the systems don't suck.
