The Horror

January 22, 2009 6:59:01.368

Honestly, this would be a hard transition to make:

The team members, accustomed to working on Macintoshes, found computers outfitted with six-year-old versions of Microsoft software.

Sounds like the White House is one of the places that decided not to make the switch to Vista - which hearkens back to MS' failure to win the branding war for the new OS.

This sort of happening will probably lead some to assume that Macs are for the hip and/or liberal and/or progressive crowd, while those oldy moldy conservatives in the last administration huddle in the shelter of a throw back OS.

Some examples that refute this sort of assumption:

  • Tom Clancy is a Mac user
  • Rush Limbaugh is a Mac user
  • While watching election night coverage on FOX, I noticed Karl Rove working on what was obviously his Mac in the sea of PCs that the various FOX people were using
  • Both Sarah Palin and Barack Obama use Blackberries

Finally, you all probably know that I'm a Mac guy. I'm not a liberal/Democrat, nor am I a conservative/Republican.

Oh, and tragically no one considers me all that hip ;)

Technology is value and ideology agnostic :)

there will be lots of chances

It seems Obama will start a new era in IT world as well. New ideas and open minds will benefit from this. Think if WhiteHouse is like this, how about other governments throughout the world.

Smalltalkers might contribute a lot and get rewards, finally.
