Windows ME, the Sequel

April 1, 2008 5:49:00.011

It really does look like Vista is turning into the next Windows ME - the OS everyone skips (I was smarter this time than last; I went with OS X and avoided Vista). The data pulled together by Joe Wilcox shows decent gains by Apple, but the real story is that most businesses are staying with XP - it looks like Vista pickups are matching Windows 2000 drops.

If MS were smart, they would treat Vista as an anomaly, and go back to XP as the starting point for the next generation.

Cage Match

[] April 1, 2008 11:18:34.919

I think Ed Bott and yourself should have a Windows XP vs Vista cage match. Ed can't say enough good things about Vista.

I have Vista Home Premium on a new desktop and the new TCP/IP stack would not work properly with my wireless router. My 4 year old laptop with XP had no problems. Ed's response to my complaint: upgrade my router. While Ed may find it cheap to upgrade his router (he can probably write it off as an expense), many people cannot. He also raves about UAC - a 'feature' I turned off minutes after turning on the new computer.
