Other possibilities

[Peter Fisk] August 7, 2006 9:23:25.666

The PBS special "Triumph of the Nerds" showed another possibility.

Before talking to Gates, two IBM execs went to Pacific Grove, CA to license CP/M from Gary Kildare. He was "too busy" to meet with them, and so they flew to Seattle to talk to Microsoft. Gates purchased QDOS (a CP/M clone) from another company for $50,000, and was able to offer IBM the complete BASIC/QDOS solution. And the rest is history.
