This has always been an issue for AMD and one of the view selling points Intel has still.
In fact a couple PCs ago I was upgrading to a new chip and my chip fan power line was not connected properly by me and it caused the chip and mother board to be ruined in a matter of seconds.
Not only was it a costly mistake but stunk up my entire basement.
Nice thing about intel is that if the fan fails the chip will throttle itself down as it gets too hot avoiding the literal melt down. Too bad AMD kicks Intel butt in about every other way currently though.
