November 23, 2005 14:05:45.566

The Nintendo DS is getting cheaper:

For $99 dollars this December you'll be able to pick up a Nintendo DS at your local Target store

Don't underestimate Nintendo in the game console wars - price points matter quite a bit in this space.

Nintendo

Nintendo has to deliver on the Revolution sometime. I think it may not be until next Christmas season, 2006. That system has a lot going for it. Backward compatible back to the NES and points between, via the wireless Internet connection to download games. Smash Brothers for the Revolution if I recall is going to support wireless competitions over the Internet. This is a popular game that will really leverage the Internet for more fun and competition. (My youngest is a Nintendo fanatic who sells me on all these things, if I sounds like a robot.) I can't play SB for squat against my kids and their clan, but I love playing it with them. Small, quiet, plays a lot of games vs. the 360's big, noisy, more expensive, and does not even play all the previous XBox games. Then there is the controller -- If they deliver on this, it is what will get me to buy and play games in addition to my kids. As for the DS -- my youngest just got Mario Kart DS. Wireless racing over the Internet on the DS is far and away his biggest gaming passion on any system to date. Getting these capabilities on the Revolution with the controller and the creative games that always are available for Nintendo systems... I think Nintendo gets gaming more than MS or Sony in the creativity department, and so that bodes well for their future... if they can deliver the Revolution as per their current plan.
