The "just works" platform just doesn't
Thus far, the mac mini is not impressing me. I have two perfectly good monitors here, and the mini won't work with either one. For gosh sakes, one of them works fine with my (ancient) Linux distro! People say the mac is elegant, but thus far, it's pretty inelegant around here...

Since when did Apple have a record of spending an iota of their research/development $$$ on making sure they worked with the myriad of PC crap out there. Did you *really* think you could get elegance of Apple without getting the whole kit from Apple ? Shame on you James for falling for Apple's marketing. Their stuff does "just work" - when you get the whole package from Apple. It's always been that way - and it's going to remain that way. Ya know what ? It's worth every penny. I switched three years ago and have never looked back. :-) Plucky

Trust me when I say that this experience is unlikely to lead me to a follow up Apple purchase.

Ouch, I would be pretty irritated if I'd bought myself a Mac and wouldn't get to enjoy it because of a problem as silly as this one. By the sound of it, with a third-party dvi-2-vga dongle you should be ok, not that its a good excuse for Apple...
