IBM PC Refactored?
InfoWorld points to a LinuxWorld story on a fascinating possiblity in the PC space - could IBM be interested in buying Apple?
When the news got out last week that IBM is considering selling its PC unit, rumors started swirling that Big Blue may be maneuvering to buy Apple. LinuxWorld has the story here. The LinuxWorld article says that swallowing Apple would be one way for IBM to avenge rival Microsoft for that "bad blood over early versions of Windows."...
The big question - would Apple still be Apple after such a thing? I have my doubts...

IBM isn't Sun or Oracle, they concentrate on money. If IBM is getting out of the PC business in order to improve margins and shareholder value, why in the world would they buy all or part of Apple? Revenge? The OS/2 thing was so far back that I really can't see IBM having any management with such motivation left. Fiduciary responsibility is where it's at, and I think that would make this pipe dream stay a pipe dream.
I agree with Troy

If IBM's PC business wasn't sufficiently profitable, why would they want to buy Apple?
It's not like they could go to their PC customer base, and sell them Macs. That isn't going to happen, because their PC customers need to run Windows apps.
