A Smalltalk Solutions Question

July 4, 2004 11:45:14.616

We (STIC) have started planning for StS 2005 - we are trying to select a location. We have some ideas, but I have a general question - if we held the show in a "vacation" location, would you be more likely to come, or less likely? Would you be interested in combining the trip with a vacation if we did that? Or, would you rather that we made a selection along the same lines as the last few (Seattle, Toronto, Chicago...)? Thanks!

I have to cross the ocean to get there any way, so it's a vacantion for me regardless. But Hawaii would be a nice place to do it :)

How about holding it in a place where it hasnt been held before ? One choice would be where you would get some good press (Bay Area ?); the other possibility would be where you a large pool of software jocks currently are accumulating. That would mean - India ? :) No guesses as to where I live

How about Bangalore?

I'd personally prefer Chennai (formerly Madras), but if you guys can make it across oceans, I certainly wouldn't gripe about a couple hundred kilometres :-) Plus, you can make a pitch to the legions of programmers here in India who probably think that Smalltalk is a competitor to iPod (just kidding).

And to see Safari RSS in action...

Out of the Austin vs Boston options that I heard were being considered, I would personally prefer Boston even though it is significantly further to travel for us Aussies. From what I hear, Boston is one of the nicer US cities I have yet to visit. The Bay Area would also be nice. Then again, I would certainly not complain about it being held on a cruise ship in the Caribbean - Geek Cruise style!

How about San Francisco

Omaha is a great place to have any conference. Hardly any distractions in the middle of corn fields.
