Incredibly bad performance on Linux

After copying something to the X clipboard VW performance plummets. The problem is with the klipper application that runs in KDE. This application keeps sending events to VW once something is copied to the clipboard which causes the problem. While the problem appears to be with VisualWorks, it is not.
